Welcome to the Belgium Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry website.
I think I may say that today is again a milestone in the relationship between Belgium and Nepal.
The first milestone goes back 50 years ago at the start of the diplomatic contacts between our 2 countries.
The second milestone was 1992 when the first residential Embassy of Nepal was established in Brussels.
The third milestone is certainly the foundation of the Belgium Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
For myself but also for most of us I presume a chamber of commerce is an unchartered territory.
A chamber of commerce is a type of business network , a local organization of businessmen whose goal is to further develop the interests of businesses.
The first chamber of commerce was founded in 1599 in Marseille, France.
It would be followed 65 years later by another official chamber of commerce, probably in Bruges , at that time part of the Spanish Netherlands. The world's oldest English-speaking chamber of commerce is that of New York City , which was est a blished in 1768.
The oldest known existing chamber in the English-speaking world with continuous records is the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, which was founded in 1783.
A chamber of commerce is not a governmental body or institution and has no direct role in the writing and passage of laws and regulations that affect businesses. It may however act as a lobby in an attempt to get laws passed that are favourable to businesses.
The legal form of the association is a “VZW” or a non-profitable association
The target of the association is stipulated in article 04 of the statutes which says that the association aims to promote the development, the support and the consolidation of the commercial, economical, financial and technological relations between Belgium and Nepal.
